Earlier in July 2011, I had reported how Google fell behind Facebook in terms of "page rank". For those who are not familiar with the term, here is an explanation from the previous post -

PageRank named after Larry Page, is Google's link analysis algorithm. This is an exam which Google conducts for all websites around the world and each gets a mark. The marks range from 0 to 10.

Google conducts this exam periodically and changes the marks for each website considering more than 500 million variables and 2 billion terms.

Page rank is an important factor in terms of search for Google. For instance consider two web pages, one from Facebook and another from Google+ both having similar content. Google will place the one with higher page rank at the top in search results where both pages match.

Although Google seems to have caught up with Facebook, Google+ which is Google's facebook alternative is far behind Facebook in terms of page rank. See for yourself-

It is really surprising to see Google rating one of it's products inferior to it's rival. But it only brings more credibility to Google search results - more like saying Google search will show you the best results even if it is from their deadliest competitor.
